I don't think I've ever eaten a huckleberry, but I sure would like to try one. The photos you provided look so appetizing. We have almost a full pasture of wild blackberries growing that are getting very close to being ripe. The few that we have tried already were delicious. We hope to get to them when they are fully ripened before the deer get them all. We had 7 deer munching away yesterday morning.
Yesterday we had about 5 deer at one end of the large patch of blackberries and at the other end a turkey and 3 young ones. They all scattered in different directions when we drove by. As thorny as the blackberry bushes were, the deer were right in the middle of the bushes. A couple of years ago, my husband and I had to wear chaps to pick them. I'm hoping the deer save us some to pick. We'll be in Canada this Wednesday through Sunday at the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario.
I so love reading about your food harvesting adventures. Thanks!
Thank you! I am just tickled to have a few huckleberries in the freezer!

I can picture your blackberries because we had the same in Ohio. They are so wonderful! So the deer are eating the berries before you can get them?

Always an enjoyable and informative read. Thank you Amy.
